Our mother Ann was the family genealogist. When she passed away I inherited her papers and, slowly, her interest in family history. I began this blog in to record and to share discoveries with extended family and interested friends. I plan to continue researching and writing, but I have decided to retire this website in the spring. In the meantime I thought I’d share some of the most viewed posts, and perhaps a few lesser-viewed personal favorites.
Ann’s first American ancestors in British Colonial Virginia included Loyalists and Patriots. The Graysons primarily numbered themselves among the latter although Sen. William Grayson, a witty and gifted orator, opposed the ratification of the Constitution. His moderating influence was central to the passage of the Northwest Ordinance and the Bill of Rights.
The Grayson plantation in Prince William County, Virginia was long-ago swallowed by a suburban subdivision. Sen. William Grayson is all but forgotten. Nevertheless, the Grayson Family Vault endures.
