New Post – Civil War Sweethearts

Friends and family,

A reminder that I’ll be retiring this site in April or May. If you feel led, please follow me to the new platform where you can find nearly all the blogs posted here over the past nine years.

I am collecting stories of the descendants of Benjamin and Susannah Monroe Grayson of British Colonial Virginia, and compiling an accompanying genealogy up to about the year 1900. I find myself continually drawn to a branch that for the most part never left Virginia. Two contemporary diaries give us a number of insights into who they were and how they lived. Kate Powell Carter, central to this new post, kept a third diary which I’ve been invited to look through the next time I’m out at Oatlands. Maybe this spring. Let me know if you’d like to go with me.
